If you're looking to get serious about inshore fishing in Florida's Nature Coast, this 4-hour morning charter out of Weeki Wachee is where you want to be. Captain Tim knows these Homosassa waters like the back of his hand, and he's going to put you on fish - lots of them. We're talking redfish, black drum, snook, tarpon, and whatever else is biting that day. This isn't some cookie-cutter fishing trip where you sit around hoping for the best. You'll be actively working productive spots with a captain who won't quit until you're filling the cooler. Perfect for couples or small groups who want personalized attention and real fishing action.
You'll meet Captain Tim bright and early at Weeki Wachee, and he'll already have the live well stocked with fresh bait. This is a working charter - we're not here to sunbathe. Once we're on the water, you'll have multiple lines out targeting different species depending on what's moving that day. The boat stays comfortable for two anglers, which means you get plenty of room to work and the captain can focus on putting both of you on fish. Expect to move around to different spots throughout the morning as conditions change. Tim reads the water constantly - tide, wind, bait movement - and adjusts accordingly. All your tackle and equipment is provided, so you just need to show up ready to fish. The morning bite is prime time for most inshore species, and we take full advantage of those early hours when fish are actively feeding.
This charter runs a mix of live bait and artificial lures depending on what's working best. You'll fish everything from shallow grass flats to deeper channels where big fish cruise. Live shrimp, pilchards, and cut bait keep the action steady, especially for redfish and black drum that love to root around structure. When tarpon are rolling or snook are busting bait, we'll switch to artificials and work the surface. The captain handles boat positioning and bait selection, but you'll get hands-on instruction if you want to learn new techniques. We're fishing relatively shallow water most of the time, so you'll see fish moving, feeding, and reacting to your presentations. It's visual fishing at its best. The boat runs clean and quiet, which is crucial for spooky inshore species that bolt at the first sign of trouble.
"Great experience, my 16 year old and I caught about 40 redfish. Highly reccommended." - Matt. "Tim. Was. Awesome. He went above & beyond to get us on some fish. He even let us tag along to catch bait in the morning to give us some extra time out on the water. Got some reds, catfish, jacks -- the works! Definitely going to catch Tim again next time I'm out there, and hopefully it'll be prime tarpon season." - David. "Captain Tim always puts us on the fish! I've booked multiple trips with Seize The Bay and he never disappoints! Snook, Redfish, Trout, Jacks; he knows the spots. Not little fish either, slot or over. I'll definitely be fishing with him again. Highly recommend!" - Noah.
Spanish Mackerel are speed demons that'll test your reflexes and put a serious bend in your rod. These silver bullets show up in good numbers during warmer months, usually running in schools along grass edges and drop-offs. They hit fast and fight harder than their size suggests, making screaming runs that'll have you grinning. Most fish run 1-3 pounds, but they're excellent eating and tons of fun on light tackle. Look for them when baitfish are thick and the water temperature is right.
Snook are the holy grail of inshore fishing around here, and for good reason. These ambush predators love structure - docks, mangroves, oyster bars - anywhere they can hide and pounce on unsuspecting bait. They're incredibly line-shy and boat-shy, which makes every hookup feel earned. A slot-sized snook will give you a fight you won't forget, with powerful runs and gill-rattling jumps. They're most active during dawn and dusk, which makes this morning charter perfect timing. Plus, they're fantastic table fare when prepared right.
Black Drum are the bulldogs of the inshore world. These bottom-dwellers can get massive - we're talking 20, 30, even 40-pound fish that'll test your back and your drag system. They're not flashy fighters, but they're incredibly powerful and stubborn. Young black drum (puppy drum) are excellent eating, while the big breeders are usually released to keep the population healthy. They love oyster beds and shell bottom where they can crush crabs and shellfish. When you hook into a big drum, you'll know it immediately - they just lean into the current and make you work for every inch.
Tarpon are the silver kings of inshore fishing, and when they're around, everything else takes a backseat. These prehistoric fish can reach 100+ pounds and jump completely out of the water when hooked. Even smaller tarpon in the 20-50 pound range are absolute dynamo fighters that'll have you questioning your tackle choices. They're catch-and-release only, but landing one is a memory that lasts forever. Peak tarpon season runs late spring through early fall, and when they're rolling on the surface, it's game on.
Redfish are the bread and butter of this fishery, and honestly, they're what keep most anglers coming back. These copper-colored bruisers are aggressive feeders that'll take live bait, cut bait, and artificials with equal enthusiasm. They cruise shallow flats, hang around structure, and school up in deeper water depending on

An amazing guide and trip. We were able to catch enough redfish for two meals. My son and husband really appreciated that they were able to fish a little more independently (cast by themselves, put the bait on the line, etc.) whereas I enjoyed not having to touch the bait, so Tim was flexible in allowing us to enjoy our own fishing experience. Tim was extremely knowledgeable in where the best odds were based on our conditions at the time. The weather was not ideal, but we still brought in a decent catch for the day. My son caught redfish, a flounder, lady fish and catfish, we were hoping for some trout, but the conditions just weren't working for us that day. Tim was personable and answered all our questions, but still allowed us to hold our own conversations, and wasn't overly chatty and loud. Tim's boat is well maintained and clean, and the boat ride was extremely comfortable and enjoyable. I would highly recommend, and we would use Tim again for future fishing trips.

We went out with Captain Tim at Seize the Bay Charters in Weeki Wachee and had an awesome day on the water. There were 5 of us (3 adults and 2 kids) and we caught a bunch of different fish – Jackfish, Ladyfish, Redfish, Cobia, and even some Catfish. Tim was super focused on making sure we got into fish, and he didn’t let up until we did. The boat ride itself was just as cool as the fishing. We had dolphins come right up to the boat and saw stingrays gliding around too. The kids couldn’t stop talking about it. The boat is a little on the small side, but it worked fine for our group and kept things comfortable and personal. Overall, a great mix of fishing and sightseeing. If you’re looking for a charter in the area, Captain Tim is your guy.

This was an incredible trip with me. My son and 2 other friends. Capt. Tim put us on the fish. It definitely went the extra mile to make sure we had a great trip. Would definitely recommend this trip to anyone that wants to catch red drum or trout, or whatever you desire. He knows where they're at.

Captain Tim was great, helpful and patient with the kids and helped us find some big fish.

Captain Tim is a great captain. I fished with my wife and two children (6 & 4 years old). The captain picked us up with the live well stocked. We got out and quickly had two lines out to hunt for redfish, snook, and anything else that swam by. Once those lines were out, the captain had another pole he was constantly putting chunks of bait on so the kids had constant action. Collectively, I think the two kids pulled up 8 different species of fish while my wife and I reeled in a bunch of snook, spinner sharks, black tip reef sharks, bonnet heads, a big ladyfish, and a jack crevalle. Of course it is easy to say, "of course he gave the charter 5 stars because they caught a lot of fish." I agree with that, but a captain that works this hard, obviously knew where to find the fish, and was a joy to spend 4 hours with for my whole family deserves a lot of credit. Thanks for a great experience Captain Tim. We'll be back.

Black Drum are the heavyweights of the drum family, typically running 5-30 pounds but capable of reaching 90 pounds. They're bottom feeders with crushing jaws built for oysters and crabs, hanging around oyster beds, muddy flats, and creek mouths in 2-20 feet of water. Spring is prime time when they school up for spawning - that's when you'll find the best action. What guests love is their bulldogging fight and the drumming sounds they make underwater. Keep fish under 15 pounds for the table - bigger ones get tough and stringy. Fresh crab is your best bet for bait since it stays on the hook better than shrimp. Here's the key: get your bait on the bottom and keep it there. These fish won't come up to eat.

Redfish are copper-colored beauties with distinctive black spots near their tails that typically run 18-32 inches inshore. They love super shallow water - sometimes so shallow their backs stick out - around oyster bars, grass flats, and mangrove shorelines. Year-round fishing is good, but fall and spring offer the most consistent action. What makes them fan favorites is their aggressive strikes and strong, steady fights plus excellent table fare with sweet, flaky meat. They'll eat almost anything - topwater plugs, spoons, soft plastics, and live shrimp all work. The black spot fools predators into attacking the wrong end, giving them an escape route. Pro tip: look for nervous water or fish tailing in the shallows. Approach quietly and cast beyond them, then work your lure back through the school.

Snook are ambush predators that love cover - think mangroves, docks, and creek mouths where they can hide and strike. They typically run 18-24 inches, but the big females can push 4 feet and 20+ pounds. These fish are temperature sensitive, so warmer months from May through September give you the best shot, especially around new and full moons during spawning. What makes them special is that powerful burst when they hit - they'll jump and make line-screaming runs. Their meat is excellent eating with a clean, white flake. They're ambush feeders, so work your lures slowly around structure. Pro tip: during spawning season, watch for their fins to turn bright yellow - that's when they're most aggressive and easiest to pattern.

Spanish Mackerel are fast, silvery fish with distinctive yellow spots that usually run 1-2 feet long and 8-11 pounds. You'll find them in schools near the surface around structures, flats, and oyster bars. They're some of the quickest swimmers out there, hitting at 5.5 meters per second. Spring through fall gives you the best action when they move closer to shore in warmer water. What makes them popular is their aggressive strikes and tasty, mild-flavored meat that grills up perfectly. They'll hit spoons, jigs, and live bait like shrimp or sardines. Here's a tip - when you spot a school, drift to them instead of motoring directly over. The engine noise will scatter them fast, and once they spook, they're gone.

Tarpon are the silver kings that can grow 6-8 feet and 100-280 pounds, but most we see run 4-6 feet. They're jumpers - capable of launching 10 feet out of the water when hooked. You'll find them in shallow flats, channels, and around bridges from late spring through summer. What makes them legendary is their aerial show and the fight they put up. These are strictly catch-and-release fish due to their bony meat and slow growth - a 100-pounder is 15+ years old. They can gulp air at the surface when oxygen is low, so watch for rolling fish. Live bait like crabs and mullet work best. Key tip: when they jump, bow to the fish by pointing your rod tip at them. This gives slack and prevents them from throwing the hook on their massive leaps.

Great experience, my 16 year old and I caught about 40 redfish. Highly reccommended.
